What is the Cost of Tea in China?

Posted By Jean on January 17, 2009

We are all aware of the present economic crunch that is going on in the world. We have found ourselves cutting from our budgets any unnecessary items.

Tea however, is a very affordable luxury. A tea that may cost $100 a pound still costs only 50 cents per cup when brewed. One pound of tea will supply approximately 200 cups, compared to a pound of coffee which will yield about 40 – 50 cups. This is not to mention that some local coffee shops will sell a cup of coffee for $4 per. Knowing all the health hype on tea, I will stick with my cup of green tea.

As for the actual cost of tea in China, and with a little research, good quality black Chinese tea is priced between $13 – $45 (US dollars) per 100 grams, which is approximately 3.5 ounces. Depending on the type of tea still it still becomes an affordable luxury that I will allow myself.
